Elena Melillo Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Elena Melillo on the SLU Spark nomination. Elena was nominated by Angie Wills for pursuing excellence.

"Elena is eager to learn and implement new ideas with student-athletes.  She pursues excellence by pushing for the best medical care for student athletes.  She recently challenged a decision in a professional manner to better serve a student-athlete.  For someone in her position, this may have been a challenge, however, she acted in a professional, respectful manner.  Her potential is limitless."

Loretta Edwards Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Loretta Edwards on the SLU Spark nomination. Loretta was nominated by Matthew Heaton for showing compassion.

"I was attempting to track down information and it was particularly difficult with a co-worker being on vacation. Ms. Edwards was incredibly kind, she answered all my questions and walked me through the process step by step. Even though this required multiple phone calls from me to her she was just as gracious on the last phone call as she was on the first."

Tim Gaines Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Tim Gaines on the SLU Spark nomination. Tim was nominated by Melissa Hummel for strengthening our community.

"Tim is fairly new to SLU but in his short time here, he has improved morale by 1). getting the division office painted which was very much needed and 2) by sending out group emails every month to acknowledge his coworkers birthdays and anniversaries.  It is a pleasure to work with Tim. He is committed to fostering positive change and strengthening the community in the division of general internal medicine. Way to go, Tim!"

Russell Blyth Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Russell Blyth on the SLU Spark nomination. Russell was nominated by Kathryn Dortch for serving others.

"I am a new employee here at Saint Louis University and of course I have no sense of direction once-so-ever at the moment. I parked my car in the Olive/Compton lot in order to attend orientation and I was looking at the campus map, sweating buckets because I could not find DuBourg. Then out of nowhere, I hear a kind voice asking me if I need help finding something - it was Dr. Russell Blyth. Dr. Blyth then escorted me to show me where DuBourg was and on the way gave me a very interesting history lesson about some of the buildings. I really think this act of kindness nods to the overall culture here at SLU - approachable, caring and always willing to help. I will never forget Dr. Blyth's kindness and am so lucky to work at such an institution where people/fellow employees come first. Thank you for your help Dr. Blyth!"

Maria Gonzalez Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Maria Gonzalez on the SLU Spark nomination. Maria was nominated by Debi Striler for serving others.

"Often times in clinic, patients are overheard in the SLUCare Sleep Disorder Center thanking Maria for some service she provided that was above and beyond their expectation.  Again today, a patient was thanking Maria for taking care of her.  She then went on to explain another instance when she attempted to retrieve a letter our doctor had written for her husband's medication.  The staff were unable to locate the letter and reached out to Maria who was on vacation.  Maria attempted to assist the staff over the phone in finding the letter in Epic, when that failed, she drove to the office and printed the letter.  Dedication and compassion for our patients and their families are reflected many times over by Maria, in addition to those she works for and alongside."

Amy Russell Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Amy Russell on the SLU Spark nomination. Amy was nominated by Edward Agnew for serving others.

"The morning of Friday, 09/21/18, Amy discovered a young man who seemed confused, inside the Wool Center.  Upon inquiry, Amy found that the young man was a Wash U student who had come to SLU to take a 4 hour test.  The young man had forgotten his passport for identification in order to take the test and he had given up hope of getting this done.  Amy drove the young man back to his residence near Wash U and returned him, with passport, to Wool, where he was able to then take his test.  Amy is serving others, with compassion.  KUDOS Amy."

Taylor Glueck Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations to Taylor Glueck on the SLU Spark nomination. Taylor was nominated by Patrick Cousins for serving others.

"Taylor is always above-and-beyond helpful, but in particular her assistance reserving spaces for a Campus Ministry symposium was truly indispensable -- we could not have made the week come together without her repeated efforts to find the right spaces for our events. Taylor is uniformly cheerful, helpful, and generous and deserves to be recognized for her consistently excellent and collegial contribution to our work."

Jennifer Bussen Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations Jennifer Bussen on the SLU Spark nomination. Jennifer was nominated by Matthew Heaton for serving others.

"Jennifer was the only administrative assistant in her division while they were filling vacancy. She took on more roles and made sure everything stayed afloat. She made sure that all the physicians and patients didn't feel a difference during a nearly twelve week period. On top of that, she treated everyone with the kindness she's know for."

Carie Rakers Received a SLU Spark

Congratulations Carie Rakers on the SLU Spark nomination. Carie was nominated by Tonya Vernon for serving others.

"I cannot say enough good things about Carie Rakers!  Carie manages a large department's IT needs and is constantly putting out fires and trying to help anyone and everyone...literally, because I know I contact IT on behalf of our division almost on a daily basis with some type of request.  She is great at her job, provides wonderful service to her colleagues, and I appreciate everything she does to keep our division running. She brings positive energy with her whenever she comes to our floor and is a joy to work with. I don't know what we would do without her!"
