"Samantha made me feel so incredibly welcome as a new employee to Campus Rec! She not only checks in with me to see how I am doing but went above and beyond to leave a plant and very kind card in my new office to encourage me during the transition to this new role. As a fellow mom she has reassured me when I felt sad leaving my new baby and has helped me so much answering countless questions about the department and about SLU. She even took me to lunch to welcome me! I am so grateful to her showing such kindness towards me and it makes all the difference to a new staff member feeling connected!"

"Emily has been so welcoming to me since I arrived at SLU last week! She has taken time out of her day to take me around the campus to show me where things are and introduce me to people. She has spent so much time answering my questions even though she herself is relatively new to campus. She made me cookies for my first day which was incredibly kind and made me feel so welcome!"
Tom Finan Received a SLU Spark!
Congratulations Tom Finan on the SLU Spark nomination! Tom was nominated by Patrick Cuba for showing compassion.
"These are trying times indeed. As we move through the tumult of the ITS transformation and struggle to find forward footing, our own personal challenges can seem overwhelming. Tom's empathy and awareness shines in these moments. For me, I often may not have onions because of my wife's allergy. Tom not only invited to me join him and his wife at O'Connell's for lunch, but offered me 2 onion rings without any thought of recompense. He is a heart in action—a face of God."
Marsha Steffen Received a SLU Spark!
Congratulations Marsha Steffen on the SLU Spark nomination. Marsha was nominated by Jeanette Sharif for showing compassion.
"Marsha has been blessed with unlimited compassion and demonstrates it through her daily job at SLU and beyond. I will always remember her relentless search for me when I unexpectedly fell ill last year and didn't show up for work and she went out on a personal journey to locate me.Her persistent compassion discovered that I was admitted to the E.R.for a very traumatic illness. She cared enough to know that I always contacted her when I wasn't coming to work and she knew immediately that something was wrong. We are blessed at SLU to have someone of her caliber to demonstrate genuine love and compassion always to all coworkers,as well as patients. If we all could learn from Marsha's compassion for others, I believe our SLU community, STL, and beautiful country would be in a better place because she is color-blinded when caring from the heart. I just want to hug her every time I see her."
Annamaria Szakonyi Received a SLU Spark!
Congratulations Annamaria on the SLU Spark nomination. Annamaria was nominated by Maureen Bresnahan for serving others.
"It’s no big secret that IT has been through a dramatic shift recently. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the restructure, she continuously goes out of her way to make sure the transition runs as smoothly as possible. No matter the question, she always seems to find a way to track down the answer – if a previous contact is no longer available or if a system has been transferred to someone else, she’ll search until she figures out who the new person is. She truly is embracing the University’s mission and working diligently to serve others. The support she provides is invaluable."
Congrats, Annamaria!

"Ms. Bopp, whom I had never met before today, was very generous and helpful this morning when I forgot my handouts to distribute in class. Even though she is not responsible for this class and I was just a stranger who wandered into her office, she happily volunteered to help. I emailed her the handouts from the classroom, and she printed them and voluntarily stapled them right away, so I could make it back to class on time. Thank you Ms. Bopp!"
Congrats!
Jennifer Baine Received a SLU Spark!
Congratulations Jennifer on the SLU Spark nomination. Jennifer was nominated by Peter Garvin for serving others.
"Jennifer is a great example of an individual who epitomizes "serving others!" Jennifer, who was not feeling all that well, still coordinated her duties to be completed for the Staff Advisory Committee's February meeting. Jennifer, knowing we were already a member short, made sure her Membership Coordinator responsibilities were completed and stayed through the entire meeting to make sure all of the SAC members joining via Fuze had their names noted as attending. Even though she struggled through the meeting, she still managed to complete her tasks to include making sure all of the directional signs placed were removed from the hallways. Thank you, Jennifer! The Staff Advisory Committee appreciates you!"
