2016 Geriatric Case Competition
On February 2, students from from across the health professions at Saint Louis University and Maryville University participated in the first annual Geriatric Case Competition. Nine teams, each with students from multiple disciplines, were charged with becoming an interprofessional team and developing a plan of care for a geriatric patient based on a standardized case. Students met over three weeks and had access to a faculty mentor. Each team made a formal presentation of their plan, and they were graded on the quality of their plan and interprofessional collaboration. Winners were announced February 9th at a reception to congratulate all the students on their exceptional work. First Place went to the Team of Tara Dauer (Nursing), Colin Gallagher (Medicine), Kylee Sachtleben (Communication Sciences and Disorders), and Danielle Thomas (Medical Family Therapy). The team was mentored by Melissa Ramel, MS, MPH, RD, LD, an instructor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at SLU.
